On 15 April 2015 Institute of Public Health of Serbia ’’Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut’’ organized workshop “Improving influenza surveillance” due to improving and strengthening of surveillance of influenza. This activity has been organized in the framework of the second year implementation of the Project “Surveillance and Response to Avian and pandemic Influenza by National Health Authorities of Countries of South East Europe”.
The workshop was attended by epidemiologists - influenza coordinators from districts IPHs, their deputies and medical staff which are involved in influenza surveillance at district level, representatives of Clinic for Tropical and Infectious Diseases, Regional Office of the WHO in Belgrade and Institute of Virusology, Vaccines and Sera “Torlak”.
General director of Institute of Public Health of Serbia, prim.dr sci med Dragan Ilic welcomed all participants and pointed out the importance of influenza surveillance and also the role of the Republic of Serbia in the SEE network and “Surveillance and Response to Avian and Pandemic Influenza” project.
The workshop started with presentation of prim dr Dragana Dimitrijevic, national coordinator for influenza, about current epidemiological and virusological situation of the influenza in season 2014/15 in Serbia.
This was followed by discussion of all participants, who underlined the significance and usefulness of supervisory visits of sentinel sites in primary health care centres and sentinel hospitals, importance of national weekly reports which are sent to all participants in the surveillance system and which are also available on IPH site www.batut.org.rs.
