On the 27-28.09.2017 in town of Hisaria, Bulgaria, was held second annual meeting of human and veterinarian experts on influenza preparedness within the project “Surveillance and Response To Avian And Pandemic Influenza”, funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), executed by “Southeast European Centre for Surveillance and Control of Infectious Diseases”.
Participants from different organizations admitted the meeting.
At the meeting representatives of the public health network at the Ministry of Health, the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and the Regional Health Inspectorates and representatives of the veterinary authorities at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and its regional affiliates discussed number of issues concerning the coordination of activities in both fields. There were discussions on the need of shared data reporting on the various infectious diseases of mutual interest such as Avian Influenza, Anthrax, Listeriosis, West Nile Fever, Lyme disease, Rabies and others. It was agreed that the regular exchange of information on the current epidemic and epizootic situation should be strengthen, not only at the central but also at the regional institutional level, as well as that joint information campaigns for the general population are necessary.
Dr. Angel Kunchev - Chief State Health Inspector and Dr. Damyan Iliev - Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency provided information on the tasks performed by the respective systems in 2017 as well as on the forthcoming important scientific Public health and Veterinary forums in the country and abroad
